Crop PDF
What Crop PDF actually does
A crop box is easy to draw and surprisingly easy to apply to the wrong side of a rotated PDF page. This workbench treats top, right, bottom, and left as the sides you can actually see, maps that kept area back into each page's PDF coordinates, and shows the choice per physical page before it builds anything. Numeric margins provide the complete non-drag path. The result is opened again by two independent browser paths, and the PDF and its hash-bound receipt appear only when the planned page boxes, rotations, page count, and visible preview agree.
How to use it
- Choose exactly one PDF up to 50 MiB and 60 pages. Page facts, feature warnings, thumbnails, and the active preview are read locally in this tab.
- Set visible top, right, bottom, and left margins with labelled numbers or the kept-area overlay. Review the current page, then atomically copy that crop to all, odd, even, or an explicit physical-page range.
- A dedicated builder creates the candidate and a separate verifier reopens it. Check the before-and-after box table and output preview, then download the current PDF and JSON receipt.
Useful for
- Trim scanner borders or registration marks while keeping different choices on individual pages.
- Apply the same physical or proportional visible margins across pages with mixed sizes and rotations.
- Prepare a page range for reading or printing with a receipt that records the exact source, plan, boxes, and checks.
Limits worth knowing
- Cropping changes page boxes and hides content; it does not remove the underlying PDF objects and is not secure redaction.
- The browser accepts one unencrypted PDF up to 50 MiB and 60 pages. Canvas axes are capped at 8,192 pixels, the active preview at 8 million pixels, all thumbnails at 12 million pixels, output at 100 MiB, and the receipt at 1 MiB.
- Signed documents and files with advanced or incompletely profiled features require an explicit plan-bound acknowledgement. The tool does not claim arbitrary PDF semantics or signatures are preserved.
- Once this page has loaded, the selected PDF bytes, crop plan, generated PDF, and receipt are not uploaded by this tool; normal same-origin route and bundled-asset requests may still occur.
Questions people ask
Does cropping permanently remove hidden PDF content?
No. A PDF CropBox changes what a normal viewer shows, but objects outside that box can remain in the file. Use the secure-redaction tool when information must be removed rather than hidden.
What does top mean on a rotated PDF page?
Top means the top edge you see in the preview. The workbench maps visible sides through each page's own rotation and effective visible box before writing PDF coordinates.
Can I crop a PDF without dragging?
Yes. The labelled top, right, bottom, and left fields, unit selector, page controls, scope controls, Apply, and Reset buttons provide the complete workflow.
Can different PDF pages have different crops?
Yes. Every physical page keeps its own crop. You can edit one page directly or atomically copy its visible margins to all, odd, even, or an explicit page range.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No file, plan, generated PDF, or receipt is uploaded by this tool. Processing happens in the tab after the normal page and bundled assets have loaded.
